It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that we acknowledge the passing of Max Ma, an extraordinary individual whose life touched so many. Max tragically passed away recently, leaving behind a legacy of passion, compassion, and a commitment to his community. He will be remembered not only as a beloved ski coach and the inspiring founder of Train the Tetons, but also as a friend, mentor, and advocate for mental health.
Max was known for his infectious sense of humor, his unwavering love for sports, and his deep care for the people around him. He had an innate ability to connect with others, bringing warmth and joy to every interaction. His dedication to the sport of skiing and his work with the Train the Tetons program helped countless individuals pursue their passions and improve their skills. Max’s leadership went beyond the slopes—he was a source of encouragement and motivation, pushing those around him to be their best while fostering a sense of camaraderie and community.
Despite his outward strength and optimism, Max’s passing serves as a stark reminder of the importance of mental health awareness. His death by suicide, just before he was set to return home for the holidays, has left those closest to him grappling with the shock and sadness of losing someone who was so full of life. Max never expressed the inner struggles he was facing, and his tragic death underscores the need for open conversations about mental health and the importance of supporting one another through times of emotional pain.
In honor of Max and his legacy, a memorial fundraiser has been established to cover funeral expenses and create a foundation dedicated to raising awareness about mental health and preventing future tragedies. The funds will also help support the Ma family during this difficult time. Additionally, a line of shirts has been created, with all proceeds going to support mental health initiatives.
As the community mourns, we also stand together in the hope that Max’s story will inspire others to speak up and seek help when needed. Please remember that support is always available, and no one has to face their struggles alone. The 988 suicide and crisis lifeline is there for anyone who needs to talk.
Max Ma’s memory will live on through the lives he touched and the foundation that will carry his legacy forward. Our deepest condolences go out to Max’s family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in peace, and may his life continue to inspire efforts for mental health awareness and support.
