It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Hunter M. Foley, a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend. Hunter, 27, tragically passed away on January 22, 2026, at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse following an accident at work. His unexpected loss has left an irreplaceable void in the hearts of all who knew him, and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
Hunter was born on August 26, 1998, in Carthage, New York, to Michael J. and Jennifer P. (Morgan) Foley. From a young age, Hunter was deeply passionate about hockey, which became a lifelong love. He played with the Watertown Hockey Association before transitioning into officiating, earning the respect and admiration of players, coaches, and parents alike. As a hockey official, Hunter’s presence was always felt on the ice, whether refereeing youth games, high school competitions, or men’s league matches in the region. His love for the sport, coupled with his incredible work ethic, made him an integral part of the local hockey community.
Beyond his love for hockey, Hunter’s personality was one of a kind. Though small in stature, he had a heart and spirit larger than life. His family, friends, and community were everything to him, and he lived each day with a zest for adventure. Hunter found joy in many activities, from golfing, snowboarding, hunting, and fishing, to his favorite pastime of four-wheeling in the Tug Hill Region. The more mud, the better! His sense of humor, infectious energy, and his signature mullet made him unforgettable, and he always knew how to make everyone around him smile. Whether dancing to the beat of his favorite song or simply sharing a laugh with friends, Hunter’s presence was a gift to all who knew him.
Hunter was also a man of deep compassion and loyalty, leaving an indelible mark on the lives he touched. He is survived by his loving parents, Michael and Jennifer Foley; his brother, Riley; his faithful dog, Remington; and many other family members, including his maternal and paternal relatives. He was predeceased by his beloved maternal grandmother, Beverly Morgan, and several other cherished family members, all of whom will welcome him with open arms.
As we honor Hunter’s life, we remember him not just for his passions and accomplishments, but for the warmth, love, and joy he brought to those around him. He will forever be in our hearts, and his memory will live on through the laughter, the trails, and the moments of quiet reflection in the places he loved.
A celebration of Hunter’s life will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Hart & Bruce Funeral Home, followed by a reception at Spook Hill Bar & Restaurant. In memory of Hunter, his family encourages those attending to wear their favorite Hunter attire. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, an organization close to Hunter’s heart after his successful open-heart surgery at age 12.
