Vanna Hurley Napier, Hazard, KY Obituary, Death: Devoted Passion For Horses And Other Animals Has Died

It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that we mourn the passing of Vanna Hurley Napier, a devoted animal lover, mother, wife, and cherished member of the Hazard, KY community. Vanna, age 54, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington, KY, leaving behind a profound legacy of kindness, compassion, and dedication to the animals and people she loved.

From a young age, Vanna had a deep passion for horses and animals, which grew into a lifelong devotion. Whether she was riding in the saddle or tending to animals in the barn, Vanna found peace and purpose in their presence. Her love for animals was not just a hobby—it was an essential part of who she was, bringing her true joy and fulfillment. This profound connection to animals touched the lives of many, as Vanna’s compassion extended to every creature she cared for.

In addition to her love for animals, Vanna was known for her dedication to her work and her colleagues. For over 30 years, she worked at Hazard ARH, where she formed lasting bonds with coworkers, many of whom considered her not just a colleague but a friend. Vanna’s kindness, work ethic, and positive spirit made a lasting impact on everyone she worked with, and her legacy of service will be remembered with gratitude by all who had the privilege of working alongside her.

Vanna is survived by her loving husband, Sam Napier, her children Kyle Wooton (Roxanne) of Richmond, KY, Peyton Wooton (Sarah) of Hazard, KY, and Savannah Napier of Portland, Oregon. She also leaves behind her sister, Valerie Goodson (Paul), as well as four beloved grandchildren: Lillian, Sophie, Ryder, and Kathryn. Vanna’s family, friends, and work family will forever cherish the memories of her kindness, love, and unwavering support.

Vanna was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Jeff and Julia Hurley, and maternal grandparents, Charlie and Bernice Combs. Her passing leaves a deep void, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Kentucky River Regional Animal Shelter, a cause close to Vanna’s heart. As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate her life—one filled with love for family, friends, and animals.
